Cab driver attacked in apparent hate crime

A NYC cab driver was  stabbed repeatedly Tuesday in what police are calling a hate crime.  Ahmed H. Sharif, a cab driver for 15 years, was stabbed repeatedly by his passenger, Michael Enright.  Apparently, Enright asked Sharif if he was a Muslim and then became enraged, screaming and stabbing Sharif five times.  Sharif managed to close his divider and lock Enright in the cab.  He then called 911 and waited for the police.  Sharif is expected to recover.

Such is the results of bigots like Pam Geller constantly spewing their hate and invective. She and the other fearmongers are partly responsible for this senseless attack.  And by formetting all this hate, they help encourage the terrorism that they fear.  They should be ashamed.

  1. I'm so saddened when I hear about events like this one. On the FBI’s official website, there exists a chronological list of all terrorist attacks committed on U.S. soil. According to this data, Islamic acts of terrorism within the United States is 6% and lower still were acts of terrorism attributed to Communists at 5%.

American Islamophobes claim that Islam is intrinsically a terrorist religion but have no evidence to support their claims and how much credibility can they possibly have when many of them are adherents to the fear and guilt based Evangelical interpretation of Christianity?

The truth is that right wingers are primitive thinkers - black ans white thinkers and I recently blogged about this. Black and white thinking means seeing the world only in terms of extremes. It’s a way of clinging to simple-minded thinking rather than acknowledging complexities and opening one’s mind to realities.

In children developmental psychologists call this black and white thinking primitive thinking and most of us grow out of it. In adults those who are most prone to regressing to primitive thinking are fearful and emotional. They choose to live in a state of mortal fear and always try to make others feel the same way.

It's so sad to see the bullshit that's being spieled under the banner of free speech, and worse still, we are witnessing violence too. :(

  2. That statement about the percentage of terrorist attacks by Muslims being only 6% is the most fascinating factoid I've read in awhile. I will spend some time studying that database. Thanks for the tip.

  3. I agree with timethief - black and white thinking is primitive thinking, and so many people don't grow out of it. Why? I don't know all the answers, but part of the problem is religion, which teaches people to be satisfied with answers that aren't really answers. Religion stumps curiosity, leaving people with no desire to explore anything outside of their black and white boxes. But, it also has to be something more than religion at play here, because otherwise anyone who has ever been in contact with religion would be "stumped."
